
Since the creation of the artwork (during the 15th COP in Copenhagen in 2010), and with the increasing severity of climate change and the 6th mass extinction of species escalating daily, the piece was renamed and the average speed of its semi-random rotations increased to express the urgent issues at stake, as the artwork itself marked a time that was both elastic and finite.
To energetically counterbalance the artwork, the night lights of the Dunkirk Municipality building that housed it was switched off, along with some of the surrounding streetlights.
The sponsor for the Gigantism exhibition was once again a local EDF entity, through the Gravelines nuclear power plant, known as “La Géante” (The Giant), located a few kilometers away.
